there is no frigate......

"spring stirs like a young woman after her first night of love, adrift between na old life and a new..."

are there lines from books that just sit in your head forever? i have hundreds of them.

"the end of man is to know"

lines that for some reason just caught me, stole my breath, spoke to my soul, resonated so deeply that they never left. writers must be thrilled if they look down at a page and see such a line. they must know surely.

"i feel like a wet seed wild in the hot blind earth"

i find myself annoyed that books can be rad on small plastic devices. i enjoy holding a book. if i like a book it stays in my home and sometimes it is given a vacation with a friend but it comes back to me because it's family now. i have been good about not keeping all my "bus" books and send them along to the shelter or to my friend's mom. but i know i will read crossing to safety again. i've rad it 4 or 5 times already. there is no reason to assume i am done with it. and even if i don't read it again, it has earned a place with me.

there is comfort in having books in my home. and on christmas night or on my birthday i feel rich to have pile by my bed waiting to be read. don't you just love it when someone says you have to read this? it's like peeking into their minds.

"let the wild rumpus begin"

and the smell of old books...yum. i adore those stores where you sneeze a hundred times but can my antonia for 25 cents. i got the complete works of dickens for 15 bucks (hardcover with illustrations!). c'mon....... i'd have sneezed 1,000 times fro that. although i have to admit i have yet to get through edwin drood.

got something i just have to read? i go through at least three books a week.....i'm addicted. feed my habit.

"i haven't the strength to leave you"

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

Reading is one of my favourite things. My concentration ges limited when I'm tired and I find something that came as easily and as vital as breathing suddenly difficult.

Thankfully being off has helped that. So I'm reading all my old favourites with relish.

Enjoying especially my Terry Prachetts.

I also still have a De Sade I promised you. If you email your details I'll post it to you?

Whats the difference between kinky and perverted?
Kinky is when you tickle your girl friends ass with a feather.
Perverted is when you use the whole chicken...

I read constantly.

My house is full of hundreds of books. When my children were small, I almost never bought them candy or toys in the store, but I would always buy them a book.

I must admit, I have a kindle. I love it. I have read more books in the last year than I read in the previous 5 years combined. I carry hundreds of books with me everywhere. I can read whatever I want, whenever I want. Sometimes, I miss the feel of the paper. But, I don't miss how my hands would fall asleep holding a heavy hard-cover book while I read.

Nothing spectacular to recommend...I read mostly mysteries, and while I enjoy them, others may not.

WE, most of my reading these days is confined to the local newspaper, blogs. I did finish "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown last week. My daughter got a Kindle for Christmas. She likes the convenience, the low cost of downloads and the ability to store an amazing amount of books on that thin little electronic device. She advices me to get one.

I read authors. Unfortunately, they write slower than I read. I'm like all of you-my house is filled with literature.

I recommend "The Girl Who..." trilogy by Stieg Larsson. I also recommend a series of light mysteries by Diane Mott Davidson if you like to cook because inside each mystery about Goldy the caterer are several wonderful recipes.

Here's a good one for ya, we-we...

"Uncle Sam Cooks The Books" -- Andrew Gause

I lost any real interest in fiction back 50 years ago. Don't know why--I just did. In fact, over the past 30 years, I can't really remember the last "book" I read (Bible aside.) I do read technical manuals and books, though. But, I don't think you or most others would appreciate their content... or even their context.

I understand what you're saying about preferring "real" books, but my house was drowning in them. I went through a major purge recently and donated a bunch to Goodwill - now I'm down to a couple of bookshelves' worth of cherished favorites and get most of my new books on my iPad.

I think you would enjoy A Lesson Before Dying, by Ernest Gaines.

oh i love Gaines..........and i adored that book......

i cried my way through it.
