Distances listed for people

Seems like the distances in miles away that is shown must be calculated by "how the crow flies" because it says people are 30 miles away & I KNOW that it takes over an hour drive there!

I believe you are correct and it is in fact point-to-point straight line distance.

In fact I was considering this the other day when someone from Barrie Ontario contacted me and, like you, I knew the actual highway distance was 50% longer than the site's distance number.

It has been that way for years. BTW, it is "how the crow flies" but the crow is drunk and driving a '47 Buick. I'll let you do the math on that.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The distance is calculated using the zip code/postal code that each member includes on their profile and then the location is based off the downtown area of that particular code. The point-to-point straight line distance is probably fairly close to what they use. Also, the farther the distance between the two points, the greater the inaccuracy of the distance.
But this is Polyamory Date....we don't expect them to be right...do we?

I list in my profile (with regards to whom I'm looking for) as "local to the area", and for further clarification, "within 30 minutes drive time".

Time of day, day of the week/month, all other things taken into consideration can affect the actual time, but if you're familiar with Google maps, you see a more accurate distance and drive time once the destination is plugged in. It's all a matter of perspective.

Funny thing is that I live in an area where it takes me 30 minutes to get from one end of it to the other at times!
