Sweaty Sticky Ball Slapping Sex... And Other Summer Pastimes... 😎❗

Sweaty, sticky, balls-slapping sex, cleaning a bathroom tub, and beach volleyball are three things that don't interest me in the least when the 'humidex' nudges over a hundred degrees. I came to THAT conclusion many years ago. Late last night, I was reminded again of how I'd arrived at my opinion.

I don't have air conditioning in my home; with the fresh breezes that flow and blow through the rooms of my abode, I never bothered. And, I have a fan strategically placed to provide me with all the witching hour wind I need for sleep. Those whirling propellers serve me well — except when they don't.

A power failure brought my spinning blades to a silent standstill.

Electricity — in my part of the world — is driven by cheap and reliable hydro that NEVER goes down; OK, occasionally. Now tell me; how can anyone survive THIS — smouldering, sweltering, smelter (*try saying that fast, five times*) — without power? I needed a plan to cool off.

So there I stood — naked, in front of my huge living room window (*it was dark, and no one could see me *) — and gulped in the faint wisps of lava air that fluttered in. My silly neighbour, the one who walks her Shih Tzu at midnight, paused next to that moonlit maple tree on my lawn. I would have noticed sooner, but my eyes were shut. I held them that way until her barked and... *uhh*... startled me. Facetiously, I waved — surprisingly, 'Shih Tzu lady' waved back. For fuck's sake!

I stepped away from my window and gave up.

'Plan B' found me driving around in my frozen car, where the AC worked fine, and the music was loud, and I could breathe. Life was great again. While I waited for the power to come back, I wondered, what did people do before electricity?

In winter, I can see myself — going 'old school' and — throwing a log in the fire to warm up, but in this inhuman inferno? I'm moving an air mattress to my deck 'next time' — if there is one. Perhaps it's just me, but I can't take the heat. I'd probably wither and perish if I lived in Florida or Arizona.

Oh yeah, and herding cattle; that's another thing I wouldn't do.

Am I alone on this one?

.......................

Sex on a beach — sure. And the drink is fine too.

I recall that as a teenager, I'd lie on a chair and bake under the sun while slathered up with coconut-scented 'Hawaiian Tropic' suntan oil.

I'd measure my tanning progress by peeking under my trunks at my white, Uhm, thigh. 😊

I was hoping to get an invitation to that beach volleyball game! Cold showers right before bed are a useful approach when it is hot but no AC, as well. Hang in there, as this too shall pass.

why do you think porches are so popular on houses in the US south? Although with the mosquitoes porches are better when they are screened in. My power went out for 5 hours the other night. From 7PM till midnight. Of course it was from a storm, so the air was cool outdoors, and I just moved out on the deck after dark and lit a few citronella candles and sprayed myself down with Cutter. And an advantage of a Kindle, you can read in the dark.

Well, now I could almost be the expert with being forced to live without power, normal way of life for us! True though about it being slightly worse in summer then winter, (well, our kinda mild winter, your winter, not sure you guys would survive), anyway the worst in summer apart from melting, is that the foodstuffs in the fridge melt! Oh, and also used to enjoy the sun, worshipped it when young ! Still love it, just have more respect for it now! Have you noticed somtheing though Paul, in summer you try to avoid the sun, in winter you seek it out?! Do you ever get sun in winter though, hope you do!

I've done all those things and more. Still do the sex. Just more leisurely and in the shade, with a fan and cold refreshments. Little ice goes a long way when properly applied.

I have to have AC - even during moderate weather it's not a good idea for me to sleep with an open window, because I'll probably wake up in the middle of the night having an allergy attack.

Yeah, I would not have had a happy life back in the pioneer days.

I agree with you that I'd rather deal with winter than with insanely hot summer. Which is pretty obvious since I live in Minnesota.

I am with you on this one! Growing up without AC, we slept in the basement often. As a teen, I was lucky enough to have a pool. To this day, I need a lot of trips to the lake ... or cold showers.

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

I do not have much to add other than there are battery powered fans.

And that a luxury once enjoyed soon becomes a necessity.

So much delusion, so many people.

The total end of electricity is coming much sooner than you imagine.

Read about the American power infrastructure crumbling. Read about how China can, and will, shut down the power grid with a Cyberattack. It has already happened once, and that news quickly got swept under the rug.

I am not a Trump asshole or a Q conspiracy nut. This is objective fact anyone can look up.

The world is vastly overpopulated, and resources are rapidly dwindling.

I also do not have air conditioning in my home. People look at me strangely when I admit I don't. Recent work has taken me into residential buildings that are also without AC, not even in the central hallways. You would think it would be mandatory as a basic human need. My mother used to sit in the sun slathered in Hawaiian Tropic or baby oil. Amazingly, she had beautiful skin and never developed melanoma. My worst experience was falling asleep by the pool in Hawaii. I barely made it back to my room before passing out, no doubt from heatstroke. I was in so much pain but somehow managed to get through the remainder of my two-week stay and have the freckles as a forever reminder of my foolishness.

Having lived in Nevada, Arizona, and Florida I am a believer in AC. I can promise you that the very worst experience is when the AC goes out in your car. AC is everywhere unless the power is out--then we have screened porches here in the South. I'd rather be in the heat than in the cold.

OK, I scanned the responses and apparently no one caught this: Shiatsu is a massage, Shih Tzu is the dog. I have one, and she has never given me a massage. When the power/air conditioning goes off down here you don't do anything until it comes back on.

Eee... food soiling is a mess!
So few power outages here, but if we have them in winter, we just through the food in a cooler and shove it in a cooler outside.
The sun ☀ in winter is beautiful. It warms the cheeks... and feels great.
I mean... if you were to take your pants off. 😊
lol 😂 Omg... Yep, winter sun is pleasant. ❗❗😎

Eee... allergies! Yep. That's not good.
I respect those pioneers, they had stamina.
And probably, a heck of a lot less time to grumble about the small stuff. I imagine they were too busy hunting moose? ðŸĪ”
Or Buffalo 🐃.
My car is a place where I go to cool off. lol 😂 But that's also why I love the lakes and rivers nearby.

I spent many summers by the lake at my parent's cottage. Bliss... 😊

True, about batteries.
Power failures happen so rarely hear. Back in the day, they were more frequent.
Tortuous days of a hundred or more are happening more frequently, with global warming.
I hope I didn't jinx things.Thanks for popping in. 👍 😎❗❗

Eee... agh... I'm cringing at your Hawaiian story. Sounds rough.
I think we can live without AC here and in many parts of Canada 🍁, but there are days — when it would be nice to flip it on, no?
