You Know Her... She Wears Stiletto Heels... and Drives a Truck... ðâ  SHE, planted that seed decades ago in a Toronto hotel.  It took me a while to sift through that crowd and get close enough for her blue-green eyes to greet me. We didn't make love that night; instead, she poured a foundation for an insidious addiction that permanently tattooed my brain. In one night, she'd twisted me between her fingers.  And then her career stepped in. She moved to London, and we drifted apart. I was invited to her wedding but never went and I hadn't seen her in years. When she called this morning, my heart skipped a couple of beats. She was in the city for a conference, would I like to meet up for dinner and, oh yeah â she's divorced. And here I was â fucked on the freeway. I dialled Lynn's number; it wasn't going to be â not THIS time. Besides, I thought to myself, why should I jump whenever she snaps her fingers. She picked up after a couple of rings; I was about to speak, but I paused. I'd begun to gain speed; ten, then thirty and forty miles per hour. "I'll meet you in the lobby of your hotel in twenty-five minutes," I blurted. "See you soon, Lynn."  My phone rang, it was Lynn. "Paul, listen, my sister just called. My brother fell down a flight of stairs; I'm taking the next flight to Toronto. We'll have dinner another time; I hope you understand." I eased up on the gas, looked at my watch and smiled; I would have made it. What a bitch! I meant 'time'... I think. Does TIME move too fast or too slow for you? When I was younger it moved too slowly; I never thought grade 2 would end. And as I've grown older â I have to say â it moves too fast. Lynn seems to know a lot of people that fall down stairs. What are the odds? THis is the wrong year to be asking about "time". After this past 14 months , I don't hardly know what day of the week it is, much less the time. .

Time accelerate to a point. That is because when you were five, a year was twenty percent of your life. When your were twenty, a year was five percent. When I was fifty, a year was two percent of my life. Time might be slowing down some now as the percentage change every ten years is a fraction of a percent. But it still goes quickly. My mind says twenty five, but most days the body says fifty. Some days it says one hundred.

She might have forgotten she'd used THAT excuse with me. True, about 'time' plodding along at a snails pace, daily, and yet that csk calendar ð keeps flipping pages. Hmmm... Ya know, that's a good question. I'll have to try and peer into the cab â next time I'm stuck in traffic. I'd think they would wear whatever they wanted. Ever climbed into one of those huge sleeper cabs? Nope! I respect that and wish I had the same sense of responsibility. I have acquired it after a lifetime of missed deadlines; some, more critical them others.
