The Spiritual Journey Okay, I’ll admit from the start I don’t have a clue why I am on this earth; I don’t think anyone really does. For that matter, I am always trying to figure out what this whole game of life is all about. I think all anybody can do is to make a best guess, and that is what I have set out to do as I experience my spiritual journey. For years I have spent my time and energy on acquiring money, power, beauty, love, admiration, success, a nice house and friends. These are fine aspirations, but I am learning that I was missing a big part of the meaning of life and that was finding some type of spirituality. Spirituality has an importance beyond all of these worldly achievements and it only took losing all of these achievements to begin me down the path of searching for enlightenment. I have heard it said that “health is the greatest wealth”, or “a good mind is paramount” is what is really important. However, there is a prosperity that only a small percentage of people attain. Their wealth is the experience of expanded consciousness, inner peace, and serenity that comes from spiritual awareness. I believe the spiritual journey can be summed up in two phases: • Purify your heart • Follow your heart All spiritual practices such as meditation, contemplation,<b> yoga </font></b>and devotional rituals, as well as spiritual qualities such as compassion, honesty, steadiness, and unconditional love are part of this process of purifying your heart. With a pure heart, you are better able to hear, trust, and follow the still small voice inside all of us, the whisper of your own wise soul, the universal throb that speaks softly to all of us if we have the ears to hear it. If we follow our heart before we first purify the heart some of our inner voices may in fact be the old regular thoughts and desires disguised as inner inspirations and divine guidance. We need to be sure our intentions are pure, that will ensure that even if our inner guidance isn’t always on target we are still moving forward on the spiritual path and protected by our own pure intentions. I know I am in for a long journey towards enlightment, and starting over is never easy. But my heart tells me there is something on the other side that is worth searching for, and I am willing to keep looking for it. I hope you will join me in your own quest for the true meaning of why the hell we are on this rock hurling around a star in a spiral galaxy of a vast universe alone and separate but yet somehow connected.
