Exhibitionism vs. vanity Did you ever have the uncomfortable feeling that people see a connection between exhibitionism and vanity? That you can be labelled as vain although you just love to show off your best asset(s)? Apparently there's no difference between the two. Apparently. In fact, they are miles apart in their meanings. Fear no more if you are an exhibitionist, it's nothing wrong with you as long as you don't practice it in inappropriate places or to audience . Vanity has a vague narcissistic undertone, it's best described as a mild personality disorder, a case where the person is overestimating him/herself. Vanity is there for life, uncontrollable and permanent behaviour. If you were vain, you wouldn't have an Polyamory Date membership. You would be too good for it. You are a pure exhibitionist, "pure" meaning one of the four classes of exhibitionism. You don't do any physical harm to anyone, nor psychical harm- just think about it: we all are here to show and watch. It is the appropriate place and audience. We all get satisfaction from watching and exhibiting, we just love the pleasure and excitement of the "unusual". Take care until next time and don't forget to take your share of pleasure! |

the best example of exhibitionism i ever saw was in limerick city. early one morning.,heading to work i passed a local hotel. looking up i spotted a naked lady smoking a cigarette out the window of her room. the net curtains were behind her and it was possible to see every inch of her. she did not make any gestures to attract my attention, just smoked her cigarette. our eyes met, and i gave her a wave and headed to work. 16 years or so later it still brings a smile to my face when i think about it.

Exhibitionism is behavior purely to attract attention. On this site members exhibit themselves and their behaviors, this makes them exhibitors not exhibitionists. If what is exhibited is outside of what is 'accepted as normal' then they are practicing exhibitionism. An interesting example I recently saw was the comment 'I don't give a shit'. This could be vanity thinking that other members value such critique or just a juvenile attempt at getting attention ? Trust in your feelings.

I know that I am an exhibitionist, especailly a digital one, and I think that I could be a naturist too, but would have to find the place, but concidering my opinion of my personal appearcne and my general attractiveness I am anything but vain Not the Whole Truth but the truth that I can see.

Exhibitionism is enjoying people looking....... Vanity is demanding that they look, whether they want to or not.....

Exhibitionism is about behavior, it's an action or actions a person engages in. Vanity is about an attitude, how we think about ourselves. If you were to draw Venn diagram; there are exhibitionists who are vain , not all., not most, but some. There are exhibitionists who have self esteem issues, not all., not most, but some. In any group of people, you're going to find a little bit of everything.

I've been an exhibitionist since I was about 4 yrs old, exploring that odd feeling of excitement as I stepped out naked in the garage and inched closer and closer to the open door. I've loved that feeling ever since. I hadn't considered the possibility that I might have been a vain child.  I see it in my grand daughters now, once out of the tub they insist on running naked through the house.

All of those exhibiting here deserve admiration for having the courage to do so. None of us is perfect physically, unless we surgically make our boobs, butt and tummy perfect. We are not professional cam models, we are real women and men, with our imperfections but we all have the confidence. I am proud of all of you guys and girls of all ages and shapes!
