Why, by all means, treat me like shit and expect me to take it with a smile on my face!
Why, by all means, treat me like shit and expect me to take it with a smile on my face! Working in retail can really suck sometimes. I was not at my best today. After closing the store last night, I had to turn around and open the damn thing this morning too. I call it a 'clopen'. Most of the day consisted of me explaining our fucking coupons to idiot shit heads who just couldn't seem to understand that a coupon for body cream means you can ONLY purchase a fucking body cream at a discounted price. "I really only use the shower gels...." Really... Shower gels you say...... "Well, that's great! We also sell shower gels! You can buy as many shower gels as you like! Unless your shower gel says 'body cream' on the label, you AREN'T going to get it for $5 though!" I wanted to mow that one down with my car. Thank GOD I have tomorrow off. Small miracles really do happen sometimes. |

Them tubey tops had a way of slipping down when some of the ladies really wanted something. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Maybe Trump will round up all ignorant consumers, too. People are strange when you're a stranger."

I hear you sister. I work in retail too. S'funny because today I had a very similar experience with a customer who had a coupon for paper towels. A coworker of mine once said a very wise thing. He reckoned that everyone should have to work at least 6 months in retail - that way there might be just a little more courtesy, common sense and respect all around. A fantasy perhaps but I enjoyed his idea I hope that you thoroughly enjoy your day off

secret_lade replies on 10/22/2016 7:55 pm: So, tell me, did you ever let the cute girls get fuel even though it wasn't their day? They tried, and succeeded, in bribing us in ALL sorts of ways food worked and so did other "tactics". People were really desperate especially when the line was down the street. They didn't know if we were going to close the station because we were "out of gas". When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I part time delivering pizzas . . . part of the job is taking orders over the phone . . . I DO feel your pain . . . coupons aren't an issue, because we offer coupon prices on all kinds of stuff & they don't even need the little piece of paper . . . computer pulls 'em up for us . . . my 3 faves are the customers that call without having a clue what they want to order (hem & haw while on the phone), the ones that keep changing the order (over & over & over again), and my absolute favorite . . . wanting a price after they add each & every item to a large order. And you're right about closing times . . . I'm a closer (we close @ 10) . . . we're cleaning up . . . phone STILL ringing at 10:30-10:45-11:00 pm . . . ya GOTTA wonder, don't ya???

I know what you mean. I always ran into that kind of crap when I was a cashier at the truck stop's store. We sold all kinds of stuff from truck parts to food and clothing. Nobody could ever figure out the coupons we offered on stuff. woop woop

I worked "retail" at a gas station in 1973 (a.k.a. the "gas crisis" - there really wasn't a shortage BTW). People thought they were the only ones that deserved fuel even though it wasn't their day. They either bitched us out, which got them sent to another station, or they tried to bribe us in ALL sorts of ways. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Hahaha if your gonna mow them down, do it AFTER the sale. I had someone walk out on me today, while I was answering his question, I wanted to bounce something off his head, like a steel pipe, repeatedly.

People don't read anything that's posted in retail stores. Whether it be coupons, signs, when closing time is. They don't know which card they're carrying works. When it comes to employees some you can count on and others you need to have a back up ready for when they call out. Then there are the ones like myself that are there for the clopen shifts. Finish jobs and basically take much of the grief. With nothing but part time shifts to give, we and the the disillusioned cattle(customers) suffer. Using more than all the road!

I've worked in retail but it's been a long time ago. Back then most people could read and understand a coupon (unlike now!) But there were still plenty of stupid people. There never seems to be a shortage of those. Enjoy your time away from the crazy people!

I have no patience for that stuff. Good on you for not bitchslapping them upside the head!

People who work in retail are some of the most patient, yet underappreciated people out there.
