An M&M in a Sea of Skittles

Went to a Harvest Festival yesterday......

I stuck out like a sore thumb in the sea of tye dye, hairy women, and men with ZZ Top beards.

Every once in a while you must venture outside your comfort zone and experience those things you normally wouldn't experience.

Why?

It really allows you to appreciate your life and the niche you have carved out for yourself.

I have to say, while the hipster/enlightened proclaim to spread peace and love and acceptance, I find that's not really the case. Unless you are a vegan practicing sustainable living somewhere off the grid, you're shunned and looked down upon as a societal conformist of the machine.

Apparently I am expected to accept them as is but they do not have to do the same for me.

I had someone ask me what I did for a living, and when I told her, she wrinkled her nose up in disgust and exclaimed how she hated the products we sold.

Classy!

I ended up taking the higher ground and bit my tongue because, while I might not have hairy armpits and a head full of dreads, I really am a peaceful person and can accept the fact that some people are just assholes.

I think I'll stick with my niche.

The illusion of individuality and prejudice. The you ain't like me so you aren't good enough. Unfortunately it is a common disease that we all suffer from to some extent and often refuse to realize it.

Vive La Difference

I do agree. I have to say, I do judge and make assumptions as well.

Ha! That's a classic case of those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.

That's exactly what I was trying to spit out!

A hippy harvest festival? .. Oh wait. .. Hippies aren't hipsters.

Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

Oh, but they are these days. I saw some very expensive clothing on these 'hippies'. Just because you havery an old stocking hat and a tye dye shirt on it doesn't excuse the fact that you're wearing $100 shoes and $140 jeans.

Those things can be very adventurous and wild. Be yourself my dear.

I did enjoy myself, I was with friends and enjoyed the live music. It is definitely a very different way of life.
