Bad Girls 3: Cellblock 69 Review

Directed by Toni English. Released by Vivid Video in 1994.

Although Kaitlyn Ashley stars in this movie, her role is different than the one she played in the previous installment of the series which makes the box cover extremely misleading. She does not go to jail at all in this movie. Instead she plays a band manager for Vince Stone, a popular rock star played by Vince Vouyer. The story revolves around Vince needing to get away from L.A. and his subsequent arrest for speeding in a small town. Word rapidly spreads among the womenfolk that the heartthrob rock star is in the local jail and they all try to get into his cell to have their way with him. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn does what she can to get him out of jail and back to L.A. It's fairly simplistic, but it's a vast improvement over the stories of parts one and two. Story Grade: C.

This feature was shot on video. Medium Grade: C.

One real location was used in this production and there were more outdoor scenes that gave this movie a more realistic feel. A different jail set was used than that which appeared in the first two installments, but it was only slightly better. The sets still looked phony, like having a table lamp in the cell and having the judge's chambers in a regular house rather than the courthouse. The presence of an antique telephone with a modern era ring added a comedic touch. Set Design Grade: C+.

The sexual performances felt more energetic this time around. They also benefited from having some motivation behind them. However, with that being said, the sex scene with the sheriff (played by Jonathan Morgan) and the two fans (Melissa Monet and Tammi Ann) felt out of place considering it took place after the girls were released from jail. This scene could have been used as a seduction scene in an attempt to be allowed into Vince's cell. Sexual Performances Grade: B.

Jonathan Morgan's comedic talents are on full display as a bumpkin sheriff. Kaitlyn Ashley's performance wasn't too bad, except for her scene with the judge.Perhaps that scene needed stronger writing. Acting Grade: B-.

The biggest problem I had with wardrobe was the fact that the sheriff's uniform said "security officer." Vivid could have spent a little more to rent out an actual sheriff's costume. Given that this was a rural county jail cell, it made sense that prisoners would not be wearing jumpsuits. But where did that strap on come from in scene two? Come on. Wardrobe Grade: C-.

More natural lighting could have been used in the first scene to make it look better. There was blue light in scene two that didn't have a natural origin. Lighting Grade: C.

There was an issue with the microphone in the first scene as some of the dialogue was harder to hear. An inconsistent score was also distracting at times. What was consistent was some repeated background vocals that became irritating. Sound Grade: C-.

When the two fans are released from jail it is presumably night time, yet when they go outside in the scene that follows it is daytime. There did seem to be a sense of direction in this installment thanks to a stronger story. The comedic tone served this picture well, but overall it felt like a departure from the earlier movies of the series and probably should have been considered a separate entity. Directing Grade: C-.

By shooting outside and at a real location, this movie exhibited a higher production value. Set work could still have used vast improvements. Artistic Grade: C.

OVERALL GRADE: C.
