*~~ NATIONAL COAST GUARD DAY The United States Coast Guard is one of the five US Armed Forces. It is a maritime,<b> military </font></b>and multi-missioned service. It operates under the Department of Homeland Security during peacetime. However, their responsibilities can be transferred to the US Navy by the President of the United States any time deemed necessary, or by Congress during war times. I am aware that one of the members of blogland, misskissin served in the Coast Guard and I would like to honor her service. Have you or anyone you know served? The Coast Guard does not always receive the credit for all they do, so please take some time today and think about all they do.         |

Great times when I served... WHEC721 and small boat station.

We have a really neat station on South Portland. For some reason the local Navy guys call the Coasties the Hooligan Navy which to my way of thinking( yep smell the wood burning) is rude, uncalled for, and demeaning of another service branch- when in fact it was the Coast Guard that adopted non-service folks ( Ernest Hemingway, civilians, Cruising CLub of America etc) during WWII. Here's a quote "This ragtag group of sailors, undraftable reservists and adventurers were adopted by the U.S. Coast Guard and officially christened the Coastal Picket Patrol. Their sleek wooden yachts were repainted gray and outfitted with guns and listening equipment. For the rest of the war, they served as the eyes and ears of the Navy, seeking out and occasionally destroying U-boats " God bless all of the Coast Guard and thanks,misskissin (Virtual Symposium Group) use Virtual Symposium Group

There are several Coast Guard Stations in MI. I know, I know - everyone thinks oceans with the Coast Guard but the Great Lakes are a vital part of the nations coastline. Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

Wow Miss K thank you for your service. Same as our Coast Guard they get no credit either but they provide an important service on our waters. I remember a vessel in need of help when our War ship at sea in US waters. It was onevof yours coast guard ship. They came the help of the vessel then call us and we were able to help with medical aid. Took the people ashore for the ambulance waiting. The coast guard was closer then we were for the emergency before the vessel sank. A very important role they play.Hugs V Become a blog watcher sweet_vm

Happy Tuesday Pal and I thought today was Septemeber 4th.. And a big thank you to MissKissin for her service as its greatly appreciated and to all those who served thank you so much.. Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..
