The Mysterious Case of the Disappearing Pvt

I'm a nice person...or I try to be. So when a stranger pops up in chat and says "Hi" in private...I say "Hi" back. It's only polite. I have met some nice people that way. Many times the conversation deteriorates from there....but at least I have been courteous.
But what I find happens all too often is.....nothing. No intelligent conversation, no crude remarks, no perverted suggestions, just....nothing. It's like they dropped off the edge of the world. Oh, I see their handle still in the chat room list, so I know they're still there. But apparently they don't have the minutest amount of manners to continue a conversation. I'm left wondering...wtf?? Why do they even bother? I truly don't get it.
So don't be a disappearing pvt. It's rude, annoying and pretty well guarantees that you won't even get a "Hi" back the next time.

 they could be otherwise distracted, as most failed multitaskers are........ Although this happens to me, I never take it personally, and hope others dont when I appear and then disappear. If you dont succeed at first....try, try again.....

 I couldn't agree more! I know the I.M. on this site is notorious for being slow, but that does not explain alot of the crude behaviour of some. I guess part of it is the net format and people feeling they are anonymous or something
