A Little Something Serious

There are people who claim to love poetry but they never really read any. I sometimes have that problem although, for me, it's a bit different.

For most people who claim to love poetry, they just can't be bothered to read it, for whatever reason. I'm guessing here, but I would say that, among the reasons; they have other things that they would prefer to do, they don't find enough excitement in it the way they would a story, they figure they will come back to it, etc.

John Milton
(Paradise Lost)

My reason for not reading poetry sometimes is that I want to read everything from everybody and sometimes I become overwhelmed because I know, even if I dedicate the rest of my life to reading them, that there are just too many great poets for me to complete such a task.

Of course, I could pick a style and do everybody that practiced that style but I've never been able to channel just one of any thing because I'm aware of just how much I'm missing out on.

Fortunately, for me (I say that a lot, don't I ) there are quite a few bloggers here who like to submit poems from a lot of the greats here in their blogs on Polyamory Date, and I love that because I get to discover great poems (and even greater poets) that I might never have discovered.

One such blogger is Greyblue1 who, on his blog The Road To Perdition features some wonderful nudes but, even greater, poems from some of the great poets that I would never normally see.

I'm glad for this and hope he'll do this for a long time; and here's why: it solves my problem right there, because now I can read a poem or two each day at my own leisure, and not have to rush through the way I do with books.

I know I'm not the only one who reads these poems. I hope Greyblue1 and all the other bloggers who include these poems in their blog will continue to do so, and I hope I'll find those bloggers that I've not yet discovered!

And if you truly have a love of poetry then that is a blog that you should visit; get to read something from all the greats.

    Quoting :

I didn't have a lot of friends to play with in my early years but they made the 'mistake' of teaching me to read before I started school.

So my playthings (toys) were my older siblings' school-books, Shakespeare, Chaucer, Stephenson, Carroll...

I might not have grasped the concepts of what I was reading but, when I started school, the thirst was there for more, the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Anderson... growing up the way you did, I'm sure you understand. I never lost that thirst/taste.

At one stage I even thought I could write some Seuss-like material. Haven't got there as yet.

    It's easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us only sky
    Imagine all the people

I know the words to "Imagine" only because I was obsessed with the lyrics of popular songs growing up. But I don't think I paid a lot of attention because there really wasn't any friends that gave a damn.

But the one song by Lennon that I paid attention to was "Watching the Wheels" because it was such a reflection of me; so much so that at one stage it was my favorite Lennon creation.

Wicked combination; satisfies a few of my desires, like 'killing one bird with two stones'!
