Handicap Parking Spaces

I witnessed a rather unusual conversation today as I was walking across the parking lot to my car at a local grocery store. A young woman parked her new Lexus (dealer tags still) in a handicapped space. The required placard was clearly visible. An older man was approaching near her just as she was exiting her car dressed in a nice outfit with high heels. The man said to her "You sure don't appear to be handicapped, why are you parking here taking the space away from someone who really needs it?" She said "It's my Mother's car and she is handicapped." As she was walking away the man said that he didn't see the Mother with her or even sitting in the car. She ignored him, kept walking and the man just shook his head as he walked away.

My former husband used to do this very thing. He would pull into a handicapped space saying "I'm just going to be right back." I used to scold him telling him he should be DAMN glad he doesn't need that spot and to be considerate of others. Well as mean and selfish as he is he continued doing this on occasion. In passing conversation with my recently, she mentioned that "Dad got a ticket the other day," and of course I just had to ask what it was for thinking it was probably speeding. Karma is a BITCH! $250 fine for parking in handicapped!! My said he was livid and plans to fight it; he doesn't want to pay the fine because he was "only gone" from the car for less than 10 minutes and the fact that there were other handicap spots available. I say, GOOD LUCK on that...Another reminder why I am single!

I suspect the gal in the Lexus today will continue to take advantage of this so she can walk a short distance in those 5 inch high heels to get to the market!

Somebody should have flattened the tires on the car.

I myself have a placard and am legit for using it.
don't use it all the time, cause i figure there are people that need the space more than i do.

Karma is a bitch, isn't it ?

It makes us sick when people do that. Makes me wish we drove a tow truck!

As the granddaughter of a severely disabled lady who I often take to hospital and doctor's appointments, people like that make me want to punch them in the mouth...but that would be wrong Instead, Karma will get them when they least expect it and maybe when they're unable to walk the length of themselves and can't park in a disabled bay because some selfish able-bodied moron parked in a space meant for them, I hope they remember they did the same thing.

These people really are the lowest of the low, they feel no shame and are arrogant a-holes!!

I have a good friend who needs handicapped spaces - he has trouble walking. A number of times he had to park aways from his destination. When I carried a cell phone I just called the PD and they usually came. The ticket should be $1000.00 and people's DL taken away for 3 months. I have ZERO tolerance.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

As a person who had 3 paraplegics in the family at one time, those type of people piss me off. I have been in the car with a paraplegic when we couldn't get access a handicapped spot because an able bodied person was using it. We had to park quite a ways away to try and ensure that no one would park close to the driver's door and block it which would prevent it from opening all the way so he would be able to get back into the car when we were ready to leave. Plus he would have had to wheel himself all that extra distance if wouldn't have been there to push him; not every handicap person has a motorized wheelchair. And if the weather is bad that just makes it all the harder for the handicapped person. The car may be legal to park in a handicapped spot but if you don't have the handicapped person with you, walk and be thankful that you have the ability to do so.

I see this shit all the time.
The times I see the people I say something.
Sometimes I get ignored, sometimes have been threatened.

Just last week I saw a young Marine in uniform park get out, no placard or anything.
I pointed it out to him, he told me to mind my own business.

The only one's that have these people beat are the one's that park in the fire lane.

First, I agree with you about able-bodied people.

But, not all disabilities are visible. Mine aren't, including an Army leg injury that takes daily care for me to be able to walk. But as long as I take care of it, I am almost always fine. I don't want a placard.

But more seriously, I remember hearing about an Iraq war veteran with PTSD, the nature of her PTSD meant that she had great difficulty walking past parked cars. So, she had a placard. We did it to her by sending her to that useless war.

I was in a hit n run accident on my Harley and had a broken leg.I had to go to the grocery and I parked the truck in a handicap space and I didn't have a placard. I came out from the store with a walking cast on and some guy came up and popped me in the mouth screaming and yelling I was faking and taking a real handicapped persons parking space.Well someone had called the cops and when they came one happened to be a the motorcycle cop and he knew what had happened to me. As it turned out the guy was arrested for assault.
