My cool new superhero name!

The Black Thumb!

...able to kill plants with nary a sideways glance! (take THAT Triffids!)

I guess it isn't really all THAT bad. I made myself get around to doing something with all the plants that have been going crazy in the dining room here. These would be all the many plant baskets we got after Mom passed away ...the ones that my sister said that she would take but never did. I've had quite a few of them becoming sickly lately and it's kind of beyond me. As it turns out, I've mostly been over-watering. There is this one really HUGE leafy plant that's a little too big for his pot; I've found it interesting because it's the one I've kind of watched (so I blame him for the bad advice). He starts getting a little bit wilty looking and I give him some water ...within an hour or so he's back up and reaching for the sun again.

Apparently, the trouble has been that I'm assuming the other guys are as thirsty as him. As the plants have been getting less and less healthy, I've made a few "discoveries" about some of them. First was that two of the baskets had individual tiny pots within the basket underneath all the "whatever the hell they call it" covering underneath the plants (on top of the soil). When I lifted out one of the smaller pots, I discovered the plastic lining of the basket(s) and the inch to two inches of standing water in the bottom.

So it turns out that I've been drowning most of the plants. I have one BIG plant that drinks a lot (instead of "being lush" I guess he's "being a lush" and the others apparently are more moderate drinkers. Two are dead, but most of the other might make it if I quit drowning them.

I tossed the baskets, found a couple of pots out in the garage and re-potted a few of them. The weather seems to be improving a little, so I took all of them outside for now at least. Plants are really a little bit outside of my realm of experience, but keeping them alive has been interesting at least. More interesting still will be what to do with them when I move.

So it's rushing up fast, the move. The appraiser came out yesterday and checked out the old truck. It's going to be worth a pretty penny, although not quite so much as my brother had imagined. We were trying to run down some of the history on the pickup and that called for talking to my Dad's sisters.

...I think I may have written something about my Dad's sisters some time ago. Long story short is that I'm just not close to them at all, and don't have much desire to talk to them. My brother told me to send him the numbers and he would be happy to chat with them. I texted him the numbers last night, and this morning he said he'd been on the phone all morning.

He also made a remark about wanting to gnaw his arm off to get away from the phone once they got going. Better him than me ...but two plus hours on the phone and he still didn't get the information we're looking for (but there's still one aunt to go).

I've gotten all the info for the closing Friday, and so far things are looking fine. The family moved out this weekend, so things will be ready to go on Friday; I got the list of things for the title company, and it would appear that my money situation is okay as well (so far ...I had one unexpected thing pop up, but nothing too bad yet).

on that note ...time to zoom for now!
