Suspect Lands In Police Custody…Literally

Police in Moultrie, Georgia, say that a search for an elusive criminal came to a surprising end when the man crashed through a ceiling from an attic he was hiding in and landed near officers who had come to arrest him.

“Normally you have to crawl up there and root them out,” said Captain Tommy Rabon, head of the Moultrie Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. “But he came out on his own – the hard way.”

Officers had gone to a home on January 3 to with a bail bondsman to capture 21-year-old Danny Butts for a probation violation in adjoining Brooks County. He was also on probation in Colquitt County, which includes Moultrie, for theft.

When police arrived at the home, the brightly-lit interior abruptly going dark got their suspicions up.

An occupant said that Butts wasn’t there, but the cops saw some debris underneath an entrance to the attic and while they continued to question the woman, Butts fell through the ceiling onto a bedroom floor, according to police.

“He went up into the attic trying to evade them,” Rabon said. “He fell through.”
