THE CURSE OF YELLOW

Fabian Cancellara:

Tony Martin:

Daniel Teklehaimanot:

Lance Armstrong and Jan Ullrich:

This year’s Le Tour de France has started. There’s been a week of racing already in this three-week race that ends in Paris on Sunday, 26 July.

After the dope-fuelled years of professional road cycling, symbolised by the disgraced Lance Armstrong and Jan Ullrich, there is much evidence that drugs are slowly but gradually being eliminated - more rigorous drug testing, fewer disqualified riders and teams, and slower times.

This year’s Tour promises to the best race for over two decades. There are at least five top riders contending to wear the yellow jersey in Paris. The yellow jersey is worn by the rider who completes the Tour in the shortest time. This year’s Tour favours a rider who likes racing up mountains!

The highlights of this week’s Tour are the number of nasty crashes. If you like your sport hard, then take a look at professional road cycling. Two riders while wearing the yellow jersey - Fabian Cancellara and Tony Martin - have crashed out of the Tour with broken bones. The yellow jersey is cursed this year!

Top riders expected to challenge for this year’s yellow jersey are Spain’s Alberto Contador, Britain’s Chris Froome, Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali, Columbia’s Nairo Qintana and America’s Tejay van Garderen. Below is the order I think these five riders will finish in Paris.

No French rider has won Le Tour de France since Bernaud Hinault’s victory in 1985. French hopes were high for this year’s Tour, but after the first week their riders are not challenging the leading riders. Their top rider, Thibout Pinot, suffered two flat tyres in one stage losing him a lot of time. French hopes now rest on Tony Gallopin.

This year an African team, MNN-Qhubeka, was given a wildcard invitation by the Tour organisers as a way of promoting cycling in Africa. One of the team’s riders, the Eritrean Daniel Teklehaimanot, is currently wearing the polka dot jersey for being the King of the Mountains so far. Strictly speaking, an African rider won the 2013 Tour - Chris Froome was born in Kenya and educated in South Africa.

Have you been or will you watch Le Tour de France?
If so, who do you think will this year’s Tour?
When was the last time you broke a bone?

The last and only time I’ve broken a bone in my body was in the 1980s when I broke my thumb playing football. I’ve never broken any bones on a bike yet!

Have you been or will you watch Le Tour de France?
No. When women are in it, I'll watch.

If so, who do you think will this year’s Tour?
I'll back your picks since I haven't got a clue and don't care.

When was the last time you broke a bone?
I've broken my left fuckfinger a couple of times. I guess the last time was three or four years ago.

Nice flowers!

I have been in many a bike wreck. It's no good when your front tire falls off.

But I have never broken a bone.
**knock on wood**

I see the highlights of the crashes. They've been big this year.

Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

Sorry TC, I make listen to Kraftwerk's song "Tour de France", but other than to catch it on the morning sports loop I won't be watching. The Open start next week... I will watch that.

If so, who do you think will this year’s Tour? No clue.

When was the last time you broke a bone? Last winter when I made a wrong move, fell off the step-up ladder and broke a couple of small bones in my left foot.

The cycling authorities are taking women's cycling a little more seriously though there's no eqivalentof the Tour de France for them.

Nibali has lost a little time on the leaders in the first week. It'll be interesting to see whether he makes up any time now the Tour is in the mountains.

this question is not applicable, besides I am clueless

When was the last time you broke a bone? mid 80s, I was hosing off the patio on the back of the house. The cellar door and steps were in the middle of the patio. I was in beach shoes--flipflops, my feet were wet, the cement was wet and the cement steps were wet as well. I stepped onto the top step and "surfed" the stairs all the way down, stopping abruptly when my right foot slammed into the door jamb/frame. I thought I had broken my foot. I had to drag myself up the interior stairs and call my husband to take me to the ER/A&E. I had completely separated the bone in my little toe, broken it right off.

I have also broken my right foot twice when I was ten years old and I had a cast on it the second time. I have had numerous sprains, because I am a klutz.

One of my worst injuries was to my back tore muscles from bone. It required about two months of bed rest and was followed by six months of physical therapy. That was also in the mid-eighties. In the 90s I tore ligaments/tendons (whatever it was is now forgotten) in my foot (right one again) when I fell on my treadmill. I don't even want to imagine me playing sports of any kind.

Now my dear friend, are you accident prone or klutzy? What sort of condition is your condition in? When was the last time you broke a bone? Details please.
Your seem accident-prone!
The only time I've broke a bone was my thumb while playing football. My penile 'bone' has never been broken!

You need someone with a firm pair of hands to hold the stepladder when you're next on them!

I can tell about your penis, it is so nice and straight and leans to the left, just like you. Although I didn't think humans had an os penis or baculum, you must be a real animal Hugh!

If ever we met, I'd hope to find myself prone, oh shame shame on me; I really don't mean that, face up is much better.

I will try not to break anything of yours, I promise.
I love the probe bone position!

Oh my stars Hugh! Now that you mention it, THAT is one of my favorite positions. We will try it your way and then we can do it my way and then a few other ways too. Maybe at the Premier Inn? or Ibis or Etap any old place will do, I'm not fussy.
I love Premier Inns; they do geat breakfasts and have big beds!
