RUBBER REGGIE ROTTEN
RUBBER REGGIE ROTTEN I’m just reading John Lydon’s second autobiography, Anger is an Energy. He is best known as the Sex Pistols’ singer, Johnny Rotten - see the two photos below. In recent years, John Lydon regularly appears in adverts for Country Life butter. From anarchy to the dairy! Here are five titbits from his book that provide a little insight into 1970s’ Britain: 1. He was called Johnny Rotten because of his very bad teeth. 2. John Lydon revealed that he had to identify the body of his grandfather, who died from a heart attack while shagging a on a doorstep. 3. Sid Vicious, the deceased Sex Pistols’ bass player, was given a bag of heroin by his mother as a birthday present. 4. In the mid-1970s, John Lydon alerted the BBC to the p aedophile activities of Jimmy Savile. In the words of John Lydon, “It was horrible! And we all knew.” The BBC continued to use Jimmy Savile to present its Top of the Pops shows. Instead, the BBC banned the Sex Pistols’ hit single God Save the Queen from being played on BBC radio and television channels. The Establishment! 5. In his punk years, John Lydon used to hang out in the SEX clothes shop, owned by Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren. While in the shop, he once sold Reginald Bosanquet, a television newsreader, a rubber bondage shirt. “Oh, everybody loved Reggie”, John Lydon says. “He didn’t give a damn what anyone thought…. He was well into it.” Reginald (Reggie) Bosanquet was a regular anchor for ITV’s News at Ten in the 1970s - Reggie is on the right in the photo above. His father, a cricketer, is credited with inventing the googly! Anna Ford, a News at Ten newsreader said of Reginald Bosanquet: “Reggie was a dear. I mean, you wouldn't have chosen a man who had epilepsy, was an alcoholic, had had a stroke and wore a toupée to read the news, but the combination was absolute magic.” Another News at Ten colleague Trevor McDonald stated: “There was a bar across the street and most people could be found there day and night. My co-anchor Reggie Bosanquet had to be dragged out at five minutes to ten and persuaded to sit down. How we used to carry on working I'll never know.” Reginald Bosanquet was often nicknamed Reggie Beaujolais or Reggie Boozalot. He frequently slurred his words when reading the news, making bad news funny! Who is your favourite newsreader? Have you ever gone to work while drunk? What was the last autobiography or biography you read? |

Likewise, I don't trust corporate news which is why, despite its many faults, I like BBC news.

Mixed, for certain. I think he contributed brilliantly to Parliament's victory and at one time looked as if he might be a champion of the lower classes, and freedom of religion. But that all went sour in a hell of a hurry, didn't it? I thought his behavior at Burford was treacherous to say the least and it makes you doubt his sincerity in retrospect. As much as I'd like to admire him for his military accomplishments, I can't. The brutality in Ireland really seals it, I think. My own ancestry is mostly English, and Quaker as well, but if I were Irish I would have to hate him with a white hot rage. He was no better- or worse, for that matter- than the King. He was simply more competent at it.

I know where the title of John Lydon's second autobiography got its title... Do you recall the song 'Rise' by Public Image Limited (PI in 1986 where he sings that line "Anger is an energy." repeatedly? It's not the entire body of the song (for those unfamiliar with it, one thing John Lydon is not is metronomic)... Sickening fact, my "brother" had a severe attraction of the sexual kind to John Lydon. If you saw my "brother", you would swear I was adopted. My favourite newsreader is Tony Eastley. Even when I was an alcoholic who worked in a shop that sold bottled alcohol, I forced myself to forego alcohol until the end of the working day. It was hell. I have no interest in autobiographies and never read them.

I've gone to work without fully sobering up. I can still function but not at 100 per cent!

That 'loser' emoji is not intended to be in my comment. It is supposed to say ( PIL ) . Bloody site! Unless a member goes to the emoji menu (far right of the options bar of the comment field), they should not turn coinciding symbols into characters.

I once gave a lecture on Marxism when stoned. Students didn't seem to notice. Perhaps it says more about Marxism!

Hangovers at work are never good, though drinking the night before always seemed like a good idea!

I can hardly function when stoned at work, whereas I could slightly function when hungover at work. Not that I've been stoned or hungover at work; I'm just being hypothetical!
