BICYCLE RACE


Above is a photo from the video that accompanied Queen’s hit single, Bicycle Race. Released in 1978 as a double A-side with Fat Bottomed Girls, the song was written by Freddy Mercury after observing a stage of the Tour de France while Queen were recording the Jazz album in 1978. The video for the Bicycle Race song features 65 naked women riding bicycles around Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium. The video was heavily edited and even banned in some countries. The record cover showed a rear view of a naked woman on a bicycle, with a red bikini painted over her naked bottom. A bra was added to the US covers!

Yesterday, hundreds of naked cyclists brought traffic to a standstill in Mexico City to mark the World Naked Bike Ride. The World Naked Bike Ride movement began in Canada nine years ago in 1994 and is held every year in cities across the world. It campaigns for greater rights for cyclists, promotes cycling as a form of exercise, protests against the use of fossil fuels, and promotes nudity. The movement’s dress code is ‘bare as you dare’; full and partial nudity is encouraged, but not mandatory. Occasionally the naked riders are arrested in some cities, but generally police support the naked rides by marshalling traffic to allow the cyclists to ride naked on the streets. One year I saw a naked bike ride in Brighton. It was a fun spectacle!

Cars and bikes on the road often create problems. Some car drivers get angry with cyclists for going through red traffic lights and not paying any taxes; and some cyclists get angry with motorists for cutting them up and opening car doors as they pedal past. A naked Mexican cyclist remarked: "In Mexico it is a nightmare to ride a bicycle. It's almost as if you don't exist, you are a ghost."

Should cyclists enjoy more protection on the roads from motorists?

 I am a fan of Queen. I have most of their albums. Bicycle is one of my very favorites. My mini's think I am nuts when I sing at the top of my lungs.
We ride bike's on the beach here. Not many cars but lots of other obstacles.
There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.
