There is no destination but the journey you are on.. (Tulsa trip part 1)

Young man, you know
Despite your best intentions
You can’t control
The risk that comes with growing old
Oh oh oh oh ooh
You’re striking out
To claim your independence
You’ll pay the toll If you have a pretentious soul
Oh oh oh oh ooh

And in the moment
When the dust still spun
You’ll have time for contemplation
Underneath the desert sun
And there is no destination
But the journey you are on
On the road

On the road
You will find yourself
Getting lost
Being someone else
But you know
You will find yourself
On the road

Take my advice
it is for your protection
The modern world
Is full of misdirection, oh
Oh oh oh oh ooh
Young man make sure
make sure to pay attention
You are alone
But the serpent is always lurking close
He will take your soul

"On The Road" - Hanson

I tend to be very detail-oriented so excuse me if this gets a bit long winded.

I left Wed May 14 at 6 pm on a train to Pittsburgh to meet up with my friend Jess and her husband. They were 35 min late even though I kept updating how long till I was there. That was the beginning, she was late to pretty much everything the whole trip. Anyway, I had trouble getting on the train cause of my suitcase. I used to take it a lot and I don't remember the steps being that steep or the seats being that small and not much room. A nice guy passenger helped me.

I got to Pittsburgh about 7:45 pm and they had to go back to their house cause they forgot stuff, then to Walmart to get food for the trip. Finally got on the road probably about 10. We did drive straight through, her husband was the sole driver since her and I don't drive (I'm starting to consider changing that). Ohio was all lightening rainstorms the whole way which was a few hours. Indiana wasn't bad, Illinois was kind of long but not too bad. Stopped at a rest stop and took a pic of welcome to Illinois sign. (took a ton of pics all trip) Stopped later on and bought 2 shot glasses from Illinois, one for me that had a picture of the state and major cities and one for my 1 friend that says "Someone went to Illinois and all they brought me was this shot glass". She'll crack up, haven't been able to give it to her yet. Also the time zone must change in Illinois cause my phone changed back automatically.

About 7:40 am CST (8:40 EST) we saw signs for Tulsa for the first time, which was like 6 hrs away from it. It was becoming real at that point. Missouri was so long. I thought that state would never end. It was cause it brought us in near the top of the state and had to drive the whole way down. Then Oklahoma was hiding, didn't actually get into it till we were maybe 2 hours or less away from Tulsa. It was so weird cause it was all flat. So used to mountains and hills and there it's pretty much flat. We got into Tulsa about 4 pm on Thursday the 15th, had a bit of trouble finding the hotel cause of road construction. Got in registration line for the member's only events about 5 and that line sucked. We finally got our stuff and registered around 6:30. It was so surreal being there, where Hanson live and work. The registration was at their headquarters called 3CG.

That night we went to a preparty at a club kind of nearby. Hanson didn't host it but I got to try their beer Mmmhops for the first time. I am not a beer drinker and sorry Hanson but that is no exception. Plus people that do drink beer have said it's got a lot of hops in it. We walked there cause her husband didn't want to drive and it took like 20 min to get there. For me it was nothing since it was all flat and I was used to walking my bigass hill at home. But she was complaining the whole time. We also had walked to 3CG earlier too which took like 10 min from our hotel. One thing, we asked 4 different people - 1 being a cop and 1 being a security dude at a place how to get to 3CG and when they said where we'd say Hanson's headquarters and they were like who? Dude they were literally right up the street and these people had no idea. I didn't agree with walking to the preparty as it was a bit far but I wasn't going to start bitching. I just figured it was a chance to get some exercise in after being in a car for around 18 hrs, probably more since she had to stop every hour to pee. I just was trying to enjoy being there and not bitch about little things.

They also had 3 Hanson drinks for that night. I had the "Back To The Island" It had Malibu rum, pineapple juice, and lime slice. It was pretty good but way overpriced. The other 2 were called Devils Nachos and Milwaukee Sour. There was karaoke to a live band, but it was the same few people going up and it got boring. Jess' husband got us each another drink both Back To The Island and she didn't like hers so she gave it to me. So I had 1 Mmmhops (yes I drank the whole thing) and 3 Back To the Islands. We got the hotel's shuttle back and crashed probably like 12:30.

Fri the 16th Jess had to be at the Blue Rose Cafe for a birthday party I wasn't invited to at 11 so I got up at like 9:00 to shower and get ready. I was going anyway cause the Blue Rose is part of Hanson history. They sang there way back when they were young and you have to be 21 to get in so they sang outside on the deck. I ended up going with a girl I met there, Crystal, cause Jess was running late. They had a Hanson meal specially for the weekend so that's what we had. Was reasonably priced too.

So then at 1 was group photos with Hanson at Cain's ballroom which is up the street from 3CG. I went with Crystal and in line we met Emma, so we were all in the same pic. I was right in front of Zac and he had his hand on my shoulder *teenie moment* All 3 shook our hands though. I've had pics with them before and have met them many times. I am always like screaming on the inside but outside I'm all calm and normal.
Then we waited in line for the Hanson store, which they had set up in 3CG. Waited probably a half hour or so. I spent way too much and got some bday gifts for friends too that are fans but couldn't come. Their 2nd youngest sister was working there and I was arguing (good-naturedly) about how much mine came to. I kept saying it was 204 and she kept saying 155. lmao It wasn't like I was trying to pay less. So the guy she was with did it and got 204. Every 100 you spend you got an entry into the raffle the next day for a painting Zac the drummer did. He is very talented as an artist too. I didn't win, which didn't think I would.

At 5 the lectures were supposed to start. Well Hanson are always late and the doors didn't open till 530 and then Ike didn't come on till 6 I think. His lecture was about the album "Underneath" which was the first album they released on their own label back in 2004. This year was the 10th anniversary. He broke down some of the songs with the soundboard and showed us each part. Was pretty cool. Then he got silly. Hanson are usually pretty reserved, like they joke but not sexually or anything and they rarely swear. He was cracking us up saying about how he likes a song to be horny (lots of horns), he likes sacs and woodwinds. Then started going on about funky chicken. But he was really getting into it.
Oh and before they broke from their old label and formed their own there was a guy called Jeff that rejected every song they submitted and it took them till 2004 from 2000 to released a new album cause of him. That album (Underneath) ended up debuting at #1 on the indie charts at the time and the first single "Penny and Me" went to #1 after a week or two. Every song on that album were songs Jeff rejected. They have a documentary out called "Strong Enough To Break" that shows the run around he gave them and their struggle. So anyway, Ike said he agreed with Jeff in that he said the first 4 songs on Underneath Jeff couldn't hear shit. Lmao.

I was going to keep going with the other lecture and the rest of the 16th but this has become long, so I'll continue in another entry. Hope you all enjoyed my recounting so far. If you'd like to see pics on my FB from the trip message me on leave me a comment here and I'll let you know how to find me. You have to have a FB though and friend me to see them.

I sent an Angel to watch over you last night, it returned in a hurry. I asked why, it said "Angels can't watch porn." Thanks for fucking traumatizing my fucking Angel!

Don't bother trying to figure me out. Not even the little voices in my head understand me. It's pointless!

Interesting account.

I have to say: I thinks it's funny that Hanson has a beer called "mmmhop."
