Substitute Broccoli

I thought I would just mention that down at my local supermarket, there was a sign on the broccoli saying that due to the wet summer, British broccoli crops have been crap. (Well it didn't actually say that, but you know what I mean. )

So anyway, they have had to import some from America. I am pleased to report it tastes just the same as our broccoli. So thank you to our friends on the wrong continent, much appreciated.

As you were.

Dreamer.

Glad your broccoli growing friends on the wrong continent were able to help you out with that and especially glad that it tasted the same (would be a bit worried if you said that it tasted different!!)

I should have checked where in the states it came from, then I could have thanked them more personally, but I was too eager to get it into the pan.

How are things with you Rose? Are you having a good time? We don't get to hear much about you these days now your blog is no more.....
Heard any goos jokes lately?
Dreamer.

Well I just wondered if it might be a different species or something! We have some stuff here called "purple sprouting broccoli" which tastes a little bit different from ordinary broccoli.
And anyway, what about muffins? English and American muffins are two completely different things aren't they. So broccoli might have been.

Just like there are different varieties of apples, there are also different varieties of broccoli. Some are sweeter than others and some are bitter. Personally, I like the sweet. And now they are using technology to create even more varieties, ones that resist drought, resist pests, have longer shelf life, etc. Glad you liked the one you found from the states!
