WHO DECIDES WHAT IS NORMAL?

I read a woman's profile today. She seemed nice enough. That is until I got to the end. Her final comment was "no tattoos or body piercings only normal people"

It is her choice of who to connect with. I have no issue with that at all. To so easily dismiss a group of people got my attention.

As a person who has and had any or all of the above I took that as a slap in the face. Does my body art make me less normal than a person who does not?

Apparently in her world being unique is abnormal.

I drive a pick-up truck. Am I normal? Should I drive a sedan? A hybrid? A bicycle?

I don't judge a book by its cover does that make me normal? Should I deem all non-inked people as abnormal?

If variety is really the spice of life. Then to label an entire group of people abnormal because of a little ink or hardware really cuts down on the variety.

I for one feel sorry for people who so easily dismiss another person as abnormal based entirely on something so subjective as a tattoo, nipple ring or genital piercing.

Are you normal?

If you think you are, does that make you abnormal?

Until next time

I am happy being "abnormal"

I am also happily abnormal. Not only do I have piercings, but take one look at my hair, and most people automatically make a judgement. This has worked against me at work, because I then have to prove that I am smart, capable, and worthy. The way I figure it, though, is if I have gained someone's respect, then I have accomplished a lot, since I started at such a disadvantage. I plan on getting a nice tat as soon as I dig myself out of debt. It'll be one that only shows if I wear a low-cut blouse, so I can pick and choose who sees it. To hell with people who think that I am "abnormal" because of the way that I choose to decorate my body. Take me as I am, or don't take me at all. If you pass me up because of my piercings, then it's your loss, and I probably didn't want to talk to you in the first place.

I could not agree more. It is their loss if they choose to judge on appearance alone

I actually feel sorry for those close-minded people. They are shutting out the opportunity to meet new people who may look different from themselves and may may really be missing out on something...The older I have gotten the more people I have met, the more people I have met the more I am convinced....there is no "normal" we are all unique! Rock On
P.S. I have many piercings and tats, run a daycare from my home and NEVER have a problem keeping a full roster...

Well I guess I am not normal .. I have 6 tattoos and at any given moment one is always showing. I work in a very business like setting and have had the Director of the corporation come and sit and chat with me about my tattoos, she likes them and after chatting I changed her perception of them. She often teases me now about when am I taking her to see the guy who does mine. I think she'd be an ink junkie in no time.
I told her simply one day, that if after knowing me X amount of time and you discover I have a tattoo and your whole perception of me changes that fast, then you never had a very high opinion of me in the first place.

some people really don't know what they are missing out on...

I see body art and piercing as an expression of ones self...however...*giggles*...I have no tattoos or piercings...save the ear lobe...But I do love the look of them on others and perhaps one day will get the gumption up ..to invest in one or the other...
I allowed my oldest child to get a lip piercing...my family was outraged...she had by this time a mohawk and dyed her hair as well....I blasted said family members back by saying it is not a big deal...there are way worse things that she could be doing...this...is the least of my worries...*smiles*
It is her way of expressing herself...as I have my own way of doing so at the moment...

I once heard at an Alanon meeting that the only thing normal in life is the normal cycle on your washing machine!

I saw a cartoon once with a nice stage and a banner stretched across it that read "Welcome to the normal peoples convention". In the audience of the huge theater was 3 people sitting in it!!!

As far as not liking tats or piercings is basically a personal preference for someone. Just like going to a yard sale-one considers one mans trash is another mans treasure. So again, it boils down to personal preference.

I once went out on a date with a guy who had a pierced tongue and we kissed. I had never kissed a man with a tongue ring before and it made me giggle-it tickled, so I giggled. Apparently I offended him, he didnt call me back. Heck it was something different for me, I felt bad that he didn't call me back-he seemed so nice. Oh well...such is life. Anyway...happy journies.

I had not heard the washing machine analogy, not seen the cartoon. I never have kissed a woman with a tongue piercing either. I am sure it feels different. Giggling is a natural response. His loss

I am finally getting around to reading some of the blogs from the wonderful people in the Long Haired Men group. A group I am proud to be a member of and it feels like home!
I just had to check out your blog as an extension to your posts. I'm glad I did.
I must fall into the abnormal catagory. Yeah baby! I love that I can appreciate everyone for their individuality. People who are comfy with who they are express themselves be it through word, ink, piercings, art, and how they treat others. How boring life would be to be walking through life and not seeing all the beauty around us or in others.
The robots and followers of the world don't hold my interest. The "Stepford Wife" mentality I just don't get but to each their own I guess.
I wear my abnormal views proudly and love skipping and jumping and dancing through life with a smile and an open heart!
Thanks for the interesting read~Beach
