the end

A dragon and its rider bond for life and even when apart are still joined with their minds, both have the ability when parted to sense the others heartbeat, and this is why Lucy knew her companion was alive but not where he was as there had been a spell cast that blocked their minds from each other. This of course is why Lucy never gave up the hope of finding Beejay and why she was so instrumental in his recovery from the evil Mage.
We rested for a few days while Beejay regained his strength and as he grew ever stronger he would mount Lucy and they would head into the unknown where they could catch up on what had happened in the many months of Beejay’s imprisonment. Finally the day came that Beejay was able to once more return to his home, we readied ourselves for the flight home to our respective nests Little T and I were to ride Emerald, Polly and Lofty Sapphire and Skye and Beejay Lucy. I won’t bore you with the details of the flight suffice to say it was breath-taking, the sunburnt country passed beneath our mounts revealing a panorama that has to be seen to believe. As we approached our village it was plain to see that the news of our successful quest had reached the town ahead of us, every man woman and were waiting in the town park as this was the largest area clear enough for three dragons to land on and for the assembled townsfolk to get a good view from a safe distance. The dragons took it into their heads to put on an aerial display for the onlookers, coming in low and then sweeping straight up into the sky them diving down spiralling into a barrel roll that almost had us riders having heart attacks. What a wonderful sight the Green Emerald, Blue Sapphire and lucy’s shining White scales reflecting light and colour as they flashed in and out of the surrounding forest finally to land in unison in the middle of the park. As we dismounted the crowd surged forward all of them wanting to be the first to hear our story but almost suffocating us in their mad scramble. Not hesitating the Mayor shouted for order and one by one the townsfolk moved back to give us some room, when he was satisfied the crowd had heeded his words he welcomed us back, congratulating us on a fine piece of work. I was not really interested in being congratulated and I took Little T’s hand and led back to the giant gum that housed my nest, we climbed the stairs and entered my home for the first time in many weeks. Little T sat on the sofa as I entered my sleeping room she went to rise and follow me but I bid her be seated. When I returned I knelt before her taking her hand in mine I slipped my mother’s ring on her finger and begged her to marry me. She looked at me with tears glistening in her eyes, “You have already asked me to marry you and I said yes, why again?” “Because I wanted you to have my mother’s ring, to make it right and to once again profess my love for you.” She swept up into my arms and as we kissed to seal our troth I knew I was the happiest man alive.
The End.
