Lovely Leading Lady Passes

My favorite actress, Maureen O'Hara, age 95, passed away in her sleep today. She started in these wonderful movies: How Green is my Valley, The Quiet Man, Rio Grande, Sinbad the Sailor, Spencer's Mountain, and The Parent Trap. John Wayne stated he preferred to work with men — “except for Maureen O'Hara; she’s a great guy.” She married three times and her final husband was retired Brigadier General Charles Blair, and she gave up Hollywood for him- she traveled around the world with him. She returned to acting in 1991 in the film, Only The Lonely. She was born Maureen FitzSimons in 1920 in Dublin, Ireland. She started acting at the famed Abbey Theater. She moved to London and Charles Laughten, famed actor, saw her screen test, helped her get into films. During WWII, Charles Laughten moved to RKO Studios, and he starred as Quasimodo in Hunchback of Notre Dame and he requested Maureen to star as Esmeralda. He is the one who named her O'Hara to make it easier for people to remember her.

I am saddened today- a little pain in my heart today.

I'm too saddened by her death. It was only a few days ago that I mentioned her in a blog post about the Our Man in Havana film.
